๐ฑ Emissions estimates
Some LoadLoom quotes show an estimated carbon figure, like "โ 2.4 tonnes CO2e (estimate)". This page explains exactly where that number comes from, so you can decide how to use it.
We follow the approach of the GLEC Framework, the logistics industry's standard for emissions accounting (its ISO twin is ISO 14083): the shipment's weight in tonnes, multiplied by the distance in kilometres, multiplied by a default emission factor for the transport mode, expressed in grams of CO2 equivalent per tonne-kilometre on a well-to-wheel basis (fuel production plus combustion). When a quote does not state a weight, we use a conservative typical weight for that category. Distance is the quoted route distance.
| Service | g CO2e per tonne-km | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Heavy equipment | 90 | Specialized heavy-haul trucking; low backhaul utilization |
| Vehicles, RVs, boats | 85 to 90 | Specialized single-unit and multi-car carriage |
| Pallets and LTL | 100 | Terminal handling and multi-stop routing add overhead |
| Full truckload | 62 | The GLEC long-haul van default |
| Moving | 105 | Household goods are handling-heavy |
| Ocean containers | 16 | Deep-sea container average; routing approximated |
This figure is an estimate, produced from default factors, typical weights and approximate routing. It is not a measurement of any specific truck's or vessel's fuel burn, not a certified or audited figure, and not an offset or a "carbon neutral" claim of any kind. It is provided for information, to help shippers who track emissions compare and report at the screening level many frameworks allow for spend-and-activity estimates.
If your reporting requires primary data or certified figures, treat our number as a screening estimate only and tell us at trade@loadloom.com what your framework needs. Estimates may be revised as factors are updated; a shipment's displayed estimate is the one computed when it was quoted.
